First Cabin Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Dori

In this project, an existing building in Kamitsutsumicho, Kanazawa was renovated and converted to First Cabin Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Dori, following the change of intended usage. Kamitsutsumicho sits right in between Kanazawa Station and Katamachi, Kanazawa’s largest downtown district, and is a convenient area near tourist sites like Kanazawa Castle, Higashi Chaya District, and Omicho Market. Inspired by the lattices of Higashi Chaya District, the facade’s design creates an impact with its subtle red hue from among the five colors of Kaga. This same facade color is also used for the lattices above the reception and the checkerboard shelves, based on the "Japanese" style associated with the traditions of Kanazawa. What is more, this building was once a financial institution, and its history is reflected in the two safes reused in the interior space behind the reception and as a counter bar in the bar lounge, creating a unique space that instils in guests a feeling of the transition of time.
