First Cabin Niseko – Pon-no-yu was built as an extension and reconstruction project for First Cabin's 23rd facility. and first resort-type facility; most of their hotels are in central Tokyo. The snow season meant that construction works were possible only from May to November. Faced with such constraints specific to an area of heavy snowfall, the project was delivered in a short construction period by implementing the minimum works necessary. The existing building was renovated to establish the main entrance, cabin area (112 cabins), restaurant, and bathroom. The extension, meanwhile, was equipped with premium cabins (57 cabins) by a logical span structure in accordance with the prefabricated construction method. The facade is made of warm, wood-toned materials, presents a high visibility with the large, internally illuminated "FIRST CABIN" logo, and is a landmark of the Niseko area. The existing building used to be a DIY store, and its reincarnation as a hotel takes advantage of the abundant space with a ceiling as high as 4 m. The luxurious and calm in interior hints at the building’s previous life with wood-toned materials characterizing the design.
