Kaigandori 1-2 District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project District 2

CONCEPT

This is a redevelopment project in the Kaigan Dori No. 2 district of Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture. The central area of Shiogama City was severely damaged by the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake, which caused ground subsidence and inundated houses by the tsunami. The project aimed to turn the site, which had many non-residential buildings such as stores, into a center for regenerating commercial functions and to make it a symbol of reconstruction as the gateway to Shiogama City. In order to revive the once prosperous town, the eaves of stores were lined up along the alleyways, drawing people from the town into the alleyways, and creating a system that makes walking around the town enjoyable as people come into contact with people and things. In the alley, visitors can feel the change of the seasons through the flowers and plants, and the well enclosed plaza where they can hold various events as an exchange space. It is our intention that this district will become a place that expresses Shiogama in the future.
