Shiga Kogen Mountain Station Resort Center Renewal & Conversion

CONCEPT

This project converted a food, beverage, and merchandise facility that was once part of the Shiga Kogen mountain station of the ropeway into a resort center. With the construction of a new lift between the ski slopes and the bus terminal, the ticket counter, rentals, and locker rooms were reorganized as a base for skiers. To maximize the narrow space, ribbed ceilings were randomly placed in different directions to incorporate the view of the Shiga Kogen Plateau outside into the interior. The interior and exterior, as well as the entire facility, were visually connected to create a space that is easy for first-time visitors to understand at a glance. The floor and wall colors are all blue-gray and dark-gray, and the design is visually and perceptually appealing, with a composition of limited materials and switching of textures. For the exterior, a simple signage plan was adopted in subdued colors in consideration of the landscape.
